If you look at many of the self-portraits done by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, dahlia are easily spotted.  This native flower was symbolic of the Mexican socialist movement, in which Frida was a member. Her work is a wonderful pictorial record of flowers she loved and cherish.

In the language of flowers some say this flower represents: forever yours and belonging.
