Throughout the 1800 and 1900's, thousands of new forms of Dahlias were developed, with 14,000 cultivar's recognised by 1936. What amazes me is that in the past century nearly 50,000 named varieties have been listed. All of these were hybridised from possibly all three of the original Dahlia species from Mexico.

In the language of flowers and colour this beauty is associated with sunshine, joy and cheerfulness.

The is a large full-bodied bloom that reminds me of a warm sunny day with its rich golden yellow and mellowed red petals.  If it was the flower worshipped by the Aztec’s its reign has never dulled.  If it’s a boost you need, then add a vase of these to your room and be transported to a happy place.   

• The long stem is designed to be folded whichever way you need it to go, and back again. It can easily be folded up on itself (and back) to more easily fit into your container, or trimmed entirely with a pair of wire cutters
