Peonies are native to China where they are highly valued, and often referred to as the ‘Duchess of the Garden”. They were the national flower until 1929, when they were replaced by the Plum Tree. Peonies have been popular in China since the Sui Dynasty. During the Sui and Tang dynasties they were planted at the Imperial Palace and reserved for only royal eyes to enjoy. Perhaps because of this, Peony are often associated with nobility, honor, and wealth.
The ruffled plum coloured petals have hints and tints of mellowing vintage ballerina pink that gives this bloom an aged grace and elegance that only comes with maturity.
