The gardenia is a native of China where it has been cultivated and highly prized for thousands of years. Gardenia plants reached America directly from Asia in 1761. John Ellis cultivated them first at his South Carolina plantation and named the genus after his friend, Dr. Alexander Garden, a physician of Charleston. Its chief propose for early cultivation was for the cut flower industry as a heavily fragrance corsage flower.

It is said that the biblical figure, Solomon, offered a gardenia flower each morning to the women in his harem, supposedly to ease tensions and jealousies.

Did you know that it lies on the floral platform between the rose and the camellia, and is associated with the charms of femininity, elegance and a lot of delicacy?

In the Victorian language of flowers, the gardenia represents secret love. It brings honor and stands also for feminine beauty.

  • The long stem is designed to be folded whichever way you need it to go, and back again. It can easily be folded up on itself (and back) to more easily fit into your container, or trimmed entirely with a pair of wire cutters
