There is a sad but beautiful story that tells how the first ranunculus came about. A long time ago a charming Persian prince fell deeply in love with an attractive water nymph. For weeks he expressed his love to her by singing heartfelt songs, until exhaustion took hold and he fell into a deep sleep. Unfortunately, it was as the rains stopped and the watery glade where the nymph’s played, started to dry up. On realiSing their danger, they had to leave. When the prince woke and the nymphs had gone, it was the loss and grief that caused his death. Where he lay, Flora the goddess of flowers, turned him into a charming ranunculus.
In the language of flowers, that’s exactly what ranunculus represent, charm and beauty.
